The Barterer was a gnome trader living in Kharé in a shop near the red-eye district.

Description

The Barterer was an unusual trader in that he did not trade in any currency but instead swapped items. His stock included many categories such as weapons pottery, jewellery, domestic objects, and magical items. His stock was large enough that it fills the room from floor to ceiling. The Barter judges items offered to him individually, and may demand two items in exchange for one from his stock. It is even possible that he will give a second item away for free. He can be fooled by the DUD spell, so accepting an illusory treasure. He would not accept a Goblin (created by the GOB spell) as payment, seeing them as worthless.

Products

The Analander was willing to buy the following items:

• Bamboo Flute (useful for the JIG spell).
• Lucky Talisman (the wearer does not need to deduct a luck point if they Test their Luck and are Unlucky).
• Large Backpack (large enough that the wearer never needs to leave an item behind to fit new ones in).
• Bag of Goblin Teeth (contains 6 Dark Goblin teeth and, unbeknown to the Gnome, a Giant's tooth).
• Enchanted Compass (capable of tracking down the holders of the lines of the North Gate Spell).
• Beeswax (large enough to last the whole of the Analander's quest for use in the RAZ spell).

As shown by the case of the Bag of Goblin Teeth, the Barterer is not always aware of the true nature of his products.

Abilities

Should someone attack the Barterer, he has defences in place like most citizens of Kharé. For example, he may use a small vial of liquid to freeze an attacker in a second.
