“ "I have read of this Axion, and none of the stories were good." - Gereth Yaztromo ”
Axion was a powerful wizard that was born many centuries before Yaztromo and Chadda Darkmane.
Description[]
He was so powerful that he decided to quest for eternal life. Axion studied the magic of an earlier sect called the Lifters of the Crimson Veil, and also experimented with creating new life forms. [1] As part of his quest, he thus created several twisted creatures; the most remarkable of the creatures that he created are the Shape Changers. Axion also brought the brutish Axaz, and the Goblin-like Korgar into being.[1] On his journey, Axion visited Carsepolis.[2] When he was old, he finally found under the dwarvish settlement of Hellsgate, a magic well that gave him back his youth. [3]
History[]
In the year 1729 OT, Axion killed or expelled all the dwarves in Hellsgate, forcing the survivors to flee westward to other locations, including Redweed and Warpstone.[4] He created an Empire, and was granted the title "Dread Lord Axion" by his subjects, and all the kings of the known world bowed to him in exchange for extended lives.[5]
However, eventually the magic well twisted human bodies and turned them into mad monsters. Axion went mad as well, while his beloved wife Abrascia opted for suicide.[6] The center of Axion's Empire, Hellsgate, was therefore attacked and he was defeated. After his defeat, Axion's body was cut in pieces and undertaken in various places in the Pagan Plains. Before dying, however, Axion created the Bloodstone: a stone connected to a pocket dimension where his could could retreat in case his mortal body was destroyed. This way, his soul survived for so many centuries in isolation.
Cawlis, a wizard shapechanger interested in demonology, brought together a small army of Trolls, Orcs, Goblins and lizardmen, recovering Axion's Bloodstone and the five parts of the sorcerer's body. Yaztromo and Chadda Darkmane were too late to prevent Axion's return to an awful half-life, but nevertheless managed to kill the mortal form of Cawlis and to release Axion's soul from undeath.
