In the stinking, black, slime-filled waters at the heart of a swamp, there live disgusting and dangerous beasts known as Slime Suckers.[1]

Description[]

Slime suckers look like creatures out of a nightmare. Six Octopus-like legs support a shapeless body, which merges into a head with huge, evil eyes and a cavernous, tooth-filled mouth. From the top of its head sprouts a pair of breathing-tubes that allow it to lurk beneath the surface of the mud, awaiting prey. Dark green, foul-smelling slime covers its body, and it gurgles disgustingly in anticipation of a meal.[1] Their skin and flesh are also dark green in colour, and soft and lumpy in texture.[2]

Origins and Distribution[]

Initially recorded from the black-water marshlands of Fire Island[3], several large Slime Suckers have also been found in both Marsh Vile[4] and the nameless bogs of Affen Forest[5] in north-western Khul. They may also be found in Deathmoor, in the presence of Tendril Grass.[6]

This wide-spread distribution, together with their appearance on the Encounter Table for Marshes, suggests that they are most likely found in such habitats across Titan.[7] This points to an Irritarian origin for the Slime Suckers, which is likely given their hybrid appearance. Although described as Octopus-like, their two fore-tentacles end in diamond-shaped paddles that resemble those of a Giant Squid. Also, whilst their large eyes and breathing tubes could be construed as Mollusc-like, their tooth-filled mouth and three nostrils clearly point to other factors in their make-up. They are thus better classified as Monster than Mollusc.

Special Abilities[]

Fighting a Slime Sucker often means standing knee-deep in mud, which will temporarily reduce the opponent's fighting skill by 2 points.[1]

Further Notes[]

  • The Slime Sucker itself has little trouble negotiating the treacherous swamps, shifting its weight from one tentacle-like leg to another while lashing out at its prey with two more. Once it has caught and killed its prey, it will drag it beneath the stinking waters, to nibble it slowly to the bone, gorging on the succulent meat.[1] One authority has it that Slime Suckers prefer cold meat.[5]
  • Marsh Hoppers will sometimes lead unfortunate adventurers to the lair of a Slime Sucker in return for a few left-over scraps of meat.[8]
  • Slime Suckers appear as one of the 100 creatures in the "Out of the Pit"" bestiary in issue 2 of Warlock. Bizarrely, they are given 2 Attacks here,[9] but only 1 in Out of the Pit.[1]
