Mimic Stalactites are a type of Monster in the Fighting Fantasy franchise.
Origins and DistributionEdit
Mimic Stalactites are cave-dwellers, where they wait, clinging to a ceiling, for the passage of an unweary victim beneath. At this point they attempt to move into position and then drop down on their prey, using their pointed stalactite-like shells to try and impale it. They usually live in colonies of at least six individuals in order to improve their chances of bringing down their quarry.
On the outside, Mimic Stalactites just look like normal stalactites. If a character is observant, however, he will notice them move just as they prepare to strike.
Mimic Stalactites usually attack by surprise, dropping down on unsuspecting victims as soon as these pass beneath them. Usually this entails that a victim will be automatically hit by at least one Mimic (roll dice to determine the number of Mimics hitting a victim, up to the maximum of perhaps six for a human-sized target).
- The Mimic Stalactites are quite likely based on Piercers, snail-like cave-dwelling mollusks which look and hunt similarly to the Mimic Stalactite, from the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons franchise.
