Rogue Mage is a single-player role-playing mini adventure written by Graeme Davis and illustrated by Tony Ackland and Pete Martin. It was published in 1986 in issue 10 of Warlock by Games Workshop. It was later reprinted, with minor emendations to the Background section, in The Fighting Fantasy 10th Anniversary Yearbook (ISBN 0-14-036290-8) in 1992 by Puffin Books, but has not been reprinted since.

Creation

Background

Rescued from certain death... for a fate worse than death![2]

After losing all your money living the high life after a successful adventure, you are arrested after attempting to steal from a merchant. A wizard from the Guild of Magicians steps into the debate over you future and offers a way out. If you can successfully defeat the rogue mage Galthazzeth you can earn your freedom.

Rules

The mini adventure in general follows the original rules set down in The Warlock of Firetop Mountain (see Game System).

Unique Rules

Players can only eat Provisions when allowed by the instructions on a page, and only one meal can be eaten at a time. In later books players can eat at any time outside of battle. Also, while a player has only one Potion, it contains two doses.

Equipment List

A backpack is mentioned in the "Background". It is assumed that the player also starts with a Sword and Armour.

Illustrations

The illustrations were by Tony Ackland and Pete Martin. There were 3 full page (or equivalent) illustrations and 6 minor repeated illustrations scattered throughout the text. The paragraphs with a full page illustration were: 11, 171 and 1471.

  1. The illustration in this instance is placed some "distance" from the paragraph in question probably due to reasons of layout.
