The Beast Of Skull Rock (also known as The Trial of Tempest Isle or Storm Petrel Island) is an amateur Fighting Fantasy adventure by Richard Evans. It was first published online in 2014[1], and forms part of the Tales from the Bird Islands collection.
Background[]
“ The first you see of Petrel Island are the thunderheads; Mountains that tower in thin air, broiling in constant tumult. Their thick downpour obscures the crags and shoals of the island proper, their winds raising breakers that more than once threaten to smash your ship in two. Down you sail through troughs like verdant valleys, and up over peaks foam-flecked as if with snow. The bright moon turns the churning sea before you into a thousand shards of scattered silver and glints off the baroque figurehead of a galleon, fast approaching from the north. It flies the royal flag of Analand, but the men run for weapons nevertheless. For the past week the ship has thrummed with rumours of the dread island you approach; How a hundred wrecked ships adorn its strand, how no craft can reach it save in the midnight hour of every seventh day, how none that do return alive. They think any who linger here are fools, or worse... ”
