The Shogun's Champion is a title given to the chief samurai and champion of the ruler of Hachiman.[1]

The most famous of these champions was the one known as Kensei, meaning "Sword Saint", the champion of Kihei Hasekawa. It was Kensei who retrieved Dai-Katana ("Singing Death", the great sword of the Shogun said to be the soul of Hachiman) from the grasp of Ikiru, "Master of Shadows".
