The Titan Dragon ornament was one of a series of officially licensed Fighting Fantasy Ornaments made by Clarecraft Design. It featured in the original 1992 production under the code "JL02".

The model was actually simply called "Titan", although it was a Dragon and is often referred to as "Titan Dragon"[1], to differentiate it from the other associations with the name Titan that exist in the Fighting Fantasy genre.

The model was based on the Dragon illustrated on the front of the book Titan - The Fighting Fantasy World by Christos Achilleos. In terms of size, it was by the far the largest of the released items, its size being illustrated in the picture above, next to the The Warlock of Firetop Mountain ornament, with a British one pound coin between them.

The 2003 re-release was identical to the 1992/3 release but was not part of a Fighting Fantasy re-release (1992/3 being the original release of the ornaments; 2004 being the Wizard Books associated re-release). Rather, the piece was re-released on its own tenth birthday such was the popularity of the dragons sculpted by Leigh Pamment. When re-released it was titled "Lord of the Upper Reaches" and the original "Titan" nameplate was removed. This placed it amongst a series of Dragon sculptures by Pamment as opposed to the Fighting Fantasy sculptures. Pieces in that series included: D901 Defender of the Crags; D902 In Praise of the Skies; D903 Lord of the Upper Reaches; D904 Emergence. The description card that came with this release named the Dragon "Lord of the Upper Reaches (Titan)", thus acknowledging its original name.

2004 Fighting Fantasy Re-Release[]

Titan was one of three models that Clarecraft did not re-release in 2004. Titan had only been re-released the previous year within a series of Clarecraft Dragons by Leigh Pamment and with an altered title ("Lord of the Upper Reaches"). The other two figures not released in 2004 were: the Hydra, which had not even been made available commercially in 1992 due to the complexity of its design; and the Fighting Fantasy Statue Plaque/Bookend, which had the Puffin Books logo on it, and so could not be associated with Wizard Books.
