Since I first came across the web-based community it re-ignited a passion for Fighting Fantasy, and also led to the opportunity for some creative output, as Daniel Williams invited us to "rebuild the world of Titan" in the forum he began (Rebuilding Titan). Since those early days many aspects of Fighting Fantasy have variously captured my attention, but invariably I have branched off into looking into another area or been consumed with obligations and interests outside of Fighting Fantasy. This has left a residue of mini-projects that fall short of satisfying my criteria for completion. Titannica has provided an opportunity for me to get many of those mini-projects "out there" into the wider community to edit and develop. Finding a place on the wikia for each work-in-progress, (each varying in its degree of completeness) has been cathartic. It is satisfying to know that something that was stagnating on a hard drive, trapped on an uneditable webpage, or even floating in the back of my mind, is now freed up to be expanded by a whole community, its development unencumbered by my time limitations. However, I still have mini-projects, and this page, a work-in-progress by its very nature, will be where I will list them to try to avoid what would otherwise be an inevitable oblivescence. The trouble is, my interests are not confined to in-universe or meta, but span both.

Titan Perspective Mini-ProjectsEdit

I would not say that I often retreated into Allansia, but rather I regularly enjoyed visiting it and the other realms of Titan. I enjoyed my childhood and these gamebooks were a part of that. For this reason I enjoy exploring it, expanding it and connecting the dots that make it up and thus I have a number of mini-projects concerned with this aspect.

Many to be added

"Big Ticket" ItemsEdit

Certain articles that I believe are likely to be entry points for many people browsing the net for Fighting Fantasy. Some of these are well developed in the Titannica, others are not. I would like to see these articles developed fully. Below are those at the front of my mind. I should note that I am in no way taking sole responsibility for them, or indeed credit for them:

I have not yet worked out how I will monitor this. Perhaps introduce a quality scale similar to that found on a number of wikipedia projects.

Incorporation of Detail from BooksEdit

The obvious ultimate aim is to have an article on every item from every book within Fighting Fantasy canon. However, in the shorter term, in order that Titannica can truly claim to be the most comprehensive source for Titan, I believe it should at least contain entries for all things mentioned in the two most comprehensive "published" works:

I have not yet worked out how I will monitor this. Perhaps introduce a statistical summary of what is included/what is not included?

Transfer "In-universe" Work from Fang's Finest EmporiumEdit

Create FF Titan Bestiary Titannica ProjectEdit

Main article: User:Nedueb/Mini Projects/FF Titan Bestiary Conversion Project

This is the mini-project to create a Titannica project. The FF Titan Bestiary is a phenomenal piece of work captured in the database section of Titan Rebuilding and it has long been my aim to ensure that the results of Greyarea's endeavours (others have made excellent contributions but I think those involved will not begrudge Greyarea the plaudits) form the basis of creating the comprehensive catalogue of the denizens of Titan here in Titannica. The FF Titan Bestiary and its associated databases (herbiary etc) are perhaps the most thorough piece of Titan scholarship and I feel are the perfect place from which to guide Titannica's efforts to document this particular facet of the Titan universe. I intend to formulate an approach to marry the database catalgoue information with Titannica documentation and then publish this as a project space form which to launch hundreds of new articles and FF Titan bestiary led improvements to existing articles. I have held off for a while, but the work of Greyarea is now tantalising close to completion, hence this initial foray.

Meta Perspective ProjectsEdit

CollectionEdit

At my core I love books, and I am one of life's collectors. Both these aspects of me were passed on from father to son, (much to the aggravation of mother and wife). I believe that my first collection was The Chronicles of Narnia but these seven books paled into insignificance compared to the leviathan that would become the Fighting Fantasy shelf or shelves!. The line of green backed books (barring the first seven) has been a constant feature of some part of every house I have called home, along with the orange/red of Sorcery! and the blue of Advanced Fighting Fantasy. I thought I had them all... I was wrong. I thought I had all the sundry items... I was wrong. I am still reeling from the fact that one particular draw of my old desk was so full of rubbish that its contents were thrown away, which included the now super rare bookmarks. They can't be that rare!... they are. Anyway, there appears to be so many disparate lists of Fighting Fantasy goods, that I felt I wanted to create the definitive list. I got a long way there but the 90-10 rule applies. The first 90% of all items take 10% of the time to catalogue, the final 10% takes 90% of the time. I put the list on Fang's Finest Emporium and later Fighting Fantasy Collector used a very similar listing, but both were short of completion. I am determined that not only will Titannica contain all items, it will also contain good information on all items, and provide clarity. I tend to focus on the more obscure:

  • BattleCards
    • Entries for all cards
    • Fully detail the world of Vangoria.

Authors, Artists and OthersEdit

Without these figures there would be no Fighting Fantasy. I would like Titannica not only to reflect this but in a way pay homage to them by having the best encyclopaedic information on them, in a way that does them justice.

  • Author Profiles

Web HistoryEdit

Main article: Fighting Fantasy on the Web

After Curse of the Mummy was published by Puffin Books there was little if any activity except on the web. By the time I connected with the community it was fully developed. If Titannica is to be comprehensive, then I think it is important the site demonstrates an appreciation of the huge part the web community has played in keeping Fighting Fantasy alive. I would like to see articles on all the major fan sites, any official sites, forums, major pieces of web-based/hosted work, major contributors etc., which charts the journey of Fighting Fantasy in the virtual world.
